May 3, 2008

Hannah’s “convo-review” on Bringing Down the House:
me: how’s that book you were reading?
21?
7:01 PM Hannah: it was good, i finished it
7:02 PM me: nice, what was it called?
7:04 PM Hannah: bringing down the house
kinda sounds like a gay movie
me: haha, gay like homosexual?
7:05 PM Hannah: no no
7:06 PM just like a lame movie sounds i guess
me: yeah
did you like it overall?
7:08 PM Hannah: yeah i did
7:09 PM it was good
i kept wanting to read it
me: would you want to write about iit on the iluv2read website?

13 minutes
7:23 PM Hannah: haha i wouldnt know what to write?
Hannah: i really liked how he’s this nerdy MIT kid
7:26 PM and lives a double life
you know going to school, working at the lab
7:27 PM to flying to vegas for the weekend, treated like a VIP and bringing home thousands of dollars
without his parents or his GF knowing …
7:28 PM what’s interesting was that i just got back from the bahamas watching thomas play blackjack, so that inspired me to read it
7:29 PM and the fact that the guy actually lives in NY

me: i see, are you personally into gambling?
or more interested in his life?
Hannah: oh im def not into gambling
i dont like the idea of it
it’s just so addicting you know?
me: haha, yeah it just doesn’t interest me that much
Hannah: u keep thinking you’ll win, when the house has major advantage
7:30 PM
but what’s interesting, is the card counting part
Hannah: that’s so genius
7:31 PM their techniques and everything
having 3 people team up to beat the house
me: yeah, does the book go into it?
Hannah: ridiculous
me: the techniques?
Hannah: i never thought i’d be so interested in a book on gambling
yeah it does
how they play the game, they have details on it
me: and you could understand all of it?
not saying you’re stupid ;)
Hannah: hehe no i know
but yeah i could understand it
you just have to really keep track of the cards
me: did it make you want to try it?
7:32 PM Hannah: and pay attention
while playing an act
me: and did you watch the movie?
7:33 PM Hannah: no i havent yet
im waiting on thomas to finish reading the book til we go watch it
me: oh nice, did he actually want to read it? or did you make him
7:34 PM Hannah: well he actually bought the book
the crazy thing is
one of his bosses
actually not boss
one of the ppl he works with
is one of the MIT guys in the book
but we dont know who it is
yet
me: oh seriously?
Hannah: since thomas hasnt read it
yeah
me: whoa, that’s intriguing
Hannah: and i dont know his coworker well enough to tell
yeah
7:35 PM that’s why this book was so exciting
me: b/c you were trying to figure out who he/she was?
7:36 PM Hannah: well i was already halfway through when he told me about it
so i didnt take mental note of paying attention to a white guy in the team
u know?
7:39 PM me: yeah
so how long did it take for you to read it?
was it a pretty easy read?
7:40 PM Hannah: it was pretty easy
i took my time
like when i was on the train
or on the bus
7:41 PM me: i see, so would you recommend it?

11 minutes
7:52 PM
Hannah: you should def read it i think
i mean, who wouldve guessed id read it, ya know?
me: haha, hannah READS?
real books??
7:59 PM amazing.
;)
ok, i’ll put it on hold
8:00 PM Hannah: haha i know, i never guessed id read books
yet alone a book on gambling!
me: i’m 69th in line
Hannah: for what?
me: the book
public library hold
8:01 PM too poor, can’t afford books
the library is one of my favorite places
Hannah: oh wow!! 69 is far!
aww
me: but there are 13 copies
Hannah: oh ok
me: so…hopefully it’ll come in in the next 5 months
Hannah: wow that’s a lotta copies, dont remember last time i actually borrowed a book from the library )
me: i even have my library card number memorized!
Hannah: haha
me: and it’s really long
Hannah: wow..
Hannah: you’re ridiculous )
geez
me: 13 #’s
b/c i use it so often!
you know you’re cool when…

I heard that many of the main characters in the book are Asian, but in the movie (of course) they are all American (Caucasian). Is that true?
